India and Germany ink cultural accord, push UN reforms

NEW DELHI - India and Germany Monday imparted fresh momentum to their joint efforts for expansion of the UN Security Council and discussed ways to deepen counter-terror cooperation.
External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna held talks with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle that focused on UN reforms, enhanced counter-terror cooperation, climate change and the intensification of economic and defence ties.
After the talks, Suresh Kumar Goel, director general of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations, and Thomas Goetz, director general, culture and science, the German Foreign Office, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on celebrating a Year of Germany in India in 2011-2012 and a Year of India in Germany in 2012-2013.
The celebrations will mark 60 years of Indo-German diplomatic partnership.
India and Germany were last week elected non-permanent members to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2011-2012.
