Linda Norgrove Killed

KABUL (GaeaTimes.com)- Foreign Secretary William Hague announced yesterday that a British aid worker Linda Norgrove, 36, who was abducted in north eastern Afghanistan two weeks ago was killed in attempted rescue mission by NATO troops. The unfortunate incident happened on Friday during the rescue effort. Linda Norgrove was kidnapped on September 26 in the eastern Kunar province along with her three colleagues. John Norgrove, the father of British hostage told a reputed media source that the whole family is presently “devastated” at the loss of their daughter.

The Prime Minister of United Kingdom, David Cameron expressed his condolences for Linda Norgrove by saying that his thoughts are with her family who are “devastated” at this moment. The United Kingdom Prime Minister also said that Linda Norgrove was doing valuable work for Afghan people. The Foreign office spokesman said in his statement that the US firefighters were not the cause of her death. Alex Salmond, Scotland’s First Minister also expressed his “deepest” condolence at the demise of the British hostage at her “extremely sad and upsetting death.

DAI president James Boomgard expressed his condolences by saying that Linda Norgrove was the inspiration of DAI and she will be greatly missed by all of them. A British government source told in his statement that the death is probably caused by a suicide vest which was held by an abductee. The spokesperson said that 150 U.S. troops were sent to fight and rescue Linda Norgrove and other hostages but by the time they reached her, she was “mortally wounded”. US commander in Afghanistan, General David Petraeus expressed his condolences by saying that Linda Norgrove was a courageous person with a passion to improve the lives of Afghan people and she lost her life in their service.
