Five suspected Maoists arrested

KOLKATA - Five suspected Maoists were arrested Wednesday night in connection with the murder of Communist Party of India-Marxists (CPI-M) youth wing leader in West Bengals West Midnapore district, police said.

Five people were arrested from Belpahari area in connection with the Baren Singh murder case, a police officer said.

The accused have been identified as Padmalachan Hembram and Joy Kisku of Aguibil area and Nependra Mura, Jharlal Mura and Kalipada Hansda of Barighati area of the district.

All of them are members of the pro-Maoist tribal body Peoples Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA). They will be produced before the local court Thursday morning, police said.

Maoists are active in three western districts of the state - West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura.
