KABUL - A rocket struck Kabul hours before voting began for Afghanistan’s parliament Saturday, police said.

The pre-dawn attack on the capital city was an apparent attempt of insurgents to scare people from going to the polls, Xinhua reported quoting local police.

About 2,500 candidates are vying for 249 seats in the lower house — Wolesi Jirga.
