BAGHDAD - Four suspected Al Qaeda in Iraq members were arrested Saturday in joint Iraqi-US forces operations, the US military in Iraq said.

“Iraqi security forces and US advisors searched a building for a suspects allegedly involved in the financial and operational coordination of the terrorist organisation,” a statement from the US military said.

The search, near the northern town of Kirkuk, turned up two suspects. Two more people were arrested some 12 km south of the capital Baghdad during a search for a suspect involved in the manufacture of car bombs.

Iraq has seen a wave of car bomb blasts in recent weeks, and Wednesday alone such explosions killed over 60 people.

In the southern city of Basra Saturday, a roadside bomb targeting a US patrol damaged a vehicle near the offices of the Border and Customs Command, a security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
