NEW DELHI - Hotels in and around Delhi are equipped to handle a repeat of the Mumbai terror attacks during the coming Commonwealth Games, a Fire and Security Association of India (FSAI) official said Thursday.
Speaking on the sidelines of an FSAI summit here, an organiser, who preferred anonymity, said hotels in Delhi and the national capital region (NCR) are fully equipped to foil terror attacks.
“Keeping in mind the past terror attacks like 26/11 in hotels, many hotels have made elaborate security arrangements and hired additional employees trained to combat terror attacks and bomb scares,” he said.
“Specialised emergency teams to handle fires and other emergencies are deployed in many hotels,” he added.
The FSAI’s two-day summit on Safety, Security and Threats in Hospitality started Thursday.
About 50 representatives from various hotels are participating to discuss fire and security issues.
“The summit is mainly to help out star-hotels in the capital and NCR region and to keep them ready with safety measures during the Games,” Rakesh Arora, president of FSAI’s Delhi chapter told IANS.
Apart from the discussions, after the summit FSAI will give suggestions to the fire department and the government about the new technology which should be introduced in five-star hotels.
The hotels will also suggest ways of safe planning of building to the government and the fire department.
