17 militants die in Afghanistan

KABUL - Seventeen militants, including a rebel commander, were killed in fighting with security forces in western Afghanistan, Xinhua reported Tuesday.

The fatalities occurred during a joint operation of the Afghan Army and US special forces in Badghis province. Ten other militants were injured. The operation was launched Monday and is continuing.
