RANCHI - Five improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were seized from Jharkhand’s Khuti district Sunday where they were planted near the roadsides to target the security forces, police said.

A police team, on a tip-off, recovered the five IEDs - weighing between 25 kg and 35 kg - near Jaranga village of the district, around 45 km from Ranchi.

The bomb disposal squad was called to defuse the IEDs.

Jharkhand celebrated the country’s 64th Independence Day amid tight security. According to intelligence sources, Maoist rebels had planned to execute a big incident on the day.
