High court rejects Maudany’s anticipatory bail plea

BANGALORE - The Karnataka High Court Tuesday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Kerala-based People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Nasir Maudany, an accused in the 2008 Bangalore serial blasts case.
Judge N. Ananda said the blasts, which killed a woman and injured over 15 people, was a “terrorist act” and a case has been made out against Maudany by the prosecution.
Ananda said Maudany’s offences attract the provisions of the Unlawful Activities Act.
Maudany moved the high court after a lower court had July 9 dismissed his anticipatory bail appeal.
The PDP leader is one of the 31 chargesheeted for alleged involvement in the series of eight low-intensity blasts in east and south Bangalore July 25, 2008. The explosions took place in a span of 40 minutes.
A woman waiting at a bus stand in east Bangalore was killed on the spot in the explosion.
