LUCKNOW - A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district Monday rejected the bail application of terror suspect Fahim Ansari in connection with a terrorist attack on a paramilitary camp, an official said.
Ansari, presently lodged in Bareilly Central Jail, is facing charges under the Arms Act, the Explosives Act and those of forgery and criminal conspiracy in connection with the Dec 31, 2007, attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Rampur that claimed the lives of seven CRPF personnel and a civilian.
Dismissing the bail application of Ansari, recently acquitted in the 26/11 Mumbai attack case, the court of the Additional District Judge (ADJ)-I fixed Aug 20 as the next date of hearing, the official added.
Ansari’s counsel Mohd. Shohaib had filed the bail application before the court July 19, 2010 in Rampur, some 300 km from Lucknow.
Earlier, Ansari was taken to Mumbai in December 2008, almost 10 months after his arrest, after it came to light that the handlers of the 26/11 used maps seized from Ansari. He was acquitted in the case.
