Maoist commander killed in Jharkhand

RANCHI - A Maoist commander was killed in a gun battle with security forces who raided a rebel hideout on the outskirts of the Jharkhand capital early Sunday. Another rebel was arrested from Giridih district, police said.

Police raided the jugle hideout in Heso, around 20 km from here, following a tip-off.

“Rajesh Munda, area commander of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) was killed in the gun battle in the jungle areas of Namkom. We recovered one regular carbine gun and cartridges from him,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajiv Ranjan told reporters.

A search operation has been launched in the area.

A Maoist rebel was arrested in Giridih district and two rifles and cartridges were seized from him.
