GAZA, GAZA STRIP (GaeaTimes.com)- Israeli aircraft indulged in massive air attacks on Sunday at two targets in the Gaza Strip in retaliation to a rocket that was fired into the Israeli territory on Saturday. According to the Israeli officials, the aircraft attacked a smuggling tunnel as well as Palestinian military camp although no injuries have been reported till now. It has been reported that the rocket that was fired targeting Israel was responsible for creating extensive damage, however, there have been no instances of any loss of lives owing to the attack.

Jihadist Salafi group which is not associated with the Gaza Strip’s Islamic rulers has claimed responsibility for the rocket that was launched in the Israeli direction on Saturday. However, the Israeli high command has made it very clear that Hamas would be held responsible for any kind of attacks from the enclave that it controls. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said recently that Hamas would be accountable for any acts of violence that was directed against Israel originating from the Gaza strip while also pointing out that the international community should also see the matter in this manner.

Sunday’s attack on Gaza and the earlier spate of violence between the two nations were re-initiated following a rocket attack in the Israeli city of Ashkelon which took place on Friday. The strike is being perceived by many in Israel as the way of the militants to show their dissatisfaction over the Arab league’s support for the direct talks between Israel and Palestine. The rocker strike in Ashkelon resulted in huge damage to property but no one was reported to be killed.
