KOLKATA - Maoists triggered a landmine blast in West Bengal’s troubled Jhargram area Wednesday, police said. No casualties were reported.

The landmine blast was triggered on the road between Jhargram and Lodhashuli. A portion of the culvert on one side of the road was partially damaged.

“The Maoists triggered the blast. They wanted to cut off Jhargram from rest of the area. Also, they wanted to kill innocent civilians. But they have not succeeded,” said Zulfiqar Hassan, inspector general, western range.

Maoists are active in three western districts of the state — Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore.
