BHUBANESWAR - A rebel wanted in at least 11 cases related to Maoist violence has been arrested from Orissa’s Gajapti district, police said Tuesday.

Jacob Majhi, 40, was arrested Monday from his native village Ludingi, about 400 km from Bhubaneswar.

He was sent to judicial custody after his bail petition was rejected by a local court, police inspector P. Mallik told IANS.

He is one of the key members of the Orissa unit of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist. He was involved in the killing of two village guards at Katamaha village in Gajapati in May this year, said Mallik.

Majhi was wanted in at least 11 cases related to Maoist violence in the region. Nine cases were reported during the last two years while two other cases in 2003, Mallik said.
