KOLKATA - Suspected Maoists killed three people, including a worker of West Bengal’s ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), in separate incidents across the state, police said Friday.

The incidents took place Thursday night. Nirmol Soren, zonal committee member of the CPI-M, was shot dead at Nemaipur village near Simlipal in Bankura while local businessman Kartik Chalak was hacked to death at Bandhgora near Jhargram in West Midnapore district. Another CPI-M supporter Pijus Kanti Mahato was shot dead in Pukuria village near Jhargram.

Sisram Jhajharia, additional superintendent of police, Bankura, said Soren was dragged out of his house Thursday night by rebels. “His body was found lying on the road near Nemaipur village this morning.”

Though police suspect Maoists to behind Kartik’s murder, his family alleged he was killed over a land dispute.
