NEW DELHI - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday slammed the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government for being “clueless and confused” about fighting terrorism and demanded it adopt a “tough approach”.

“It seems that the UPA government is clueless and confused on the strategy to fight terrorism. BJP demands a tough approach, which is need of the hour against all kinds of terrorism, be it a Naxal (Maoist) challenge in the heartland or a challenge from separatists in the Kashmir Valley,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said in a statement issued here.

“Government cannot expect security forces to win the battle against terrorism with their hands tied behind,” he said.

Twenty-seven security personnel were killed by Maoists July 29 in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, the fourth such massacre in three months.

“On one hand, it is a risk (for security forces) of being attacked by small but determined terrorists and on the other hand, it is the constant fear of arrest for false, motivated and pre-meditated allegations of human rights violation,” Javadekar said.

He also said it was clear that Maoists are waging a war against the nation, and have a calculated game plan to spread their wings by making ferocious attacks on the security forces and the common people.

“The message is loud and clear that anybody opposing Naxalites will be liquidated. Government must show political will to combat this challenge to the sovereignty of the country,” Javadekar said.
