BAGHDAD - Six people were killed and two others injured in related violent events in the Iraqi city of Heit, police sources said Wednesday.

A clash between police and gunmen in a crowded market in Heit, 130 km west of Baghdad, left three policemen and two gunmen dead.

A third gunman was injured in the confrontation. Police took him to the Heit teaching hospital, not knowing that he had a belt of explosives strapped to his body, police sources said.

Upon arrival, the gunman blew himself up, killing himself and critically injuring two civilians.
