BHUBANESWAR - The two-day strike called by Maoists from Wednesday in five states has evoked little response in Orissa, police said.
“Less number of vehicles were plying in the areas along the Orissa-Jharkhand border. Except that, there was no impact (of the strike-call),” Inspector General of Police (Operations) Sanjeeb Marik told IANS.
“Life is normal everywhere. There has been no report of any untoward incident from any part of the state,” he said.
“Rail services have remained unaffected,” M.D. Sahu, senior public relations officer of the east coast railway told IANS.
But the movement of passenger trains on the Kharagpur-Rourkela and Kharagpur-Adra sections, suspended after the derailment of the Gynaneshwari Express in West Bengal May 28, will continue to remain suspended between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. till further orders due to security reasons, Sahu said.
This is the second two-day strike called by the Communist Party of India-Maoist in June and covers Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal.
