RANCHI - Maoist rebels shot dead a businessman, who they considered a sympathizer of another rebel faction, in Jharkhand’s Simdega district, police said Monday.

Two Maoist rebels came to a hotel run by Kunindra Prasad in the district, some 110 km from Ranchi, Sunday night and took him to a jungle area.

Prasad’s body with three bullet wounds was recovered Monday from the nearby jungle area.

“The killing seems to be outcome of rivalry among the Maoist groups. The People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) abducted and killed Prasad considering him to be a sympathizer of the Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) faction,” a police officer told IANS.

In Simdega district, five Maoist organisations are active and they regularly abduct and kill sympathizers of rival groups, police added.
