Maoists gun down cop in Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR - Four armed Maoists Saturday gunned down a policeman in full public view in Chhattisgarh, an official said.
The armed Maoists opened fire at assistant sub-inspector Shivkumar Mandawi, 40, at a weekly market in an interior pocket of Kanker district in the restive Bastar region.
Mandwai succumbed to injuries on the spot though no one either dared to save him or take him to hospital.
“The Maoists were four in number and they pumped several bullets into Mandawi. We are trying to apprehend the attackers,” Kanker’s Superintendent of Police Rohit Yadav told IANS over the phone.
The attack site is some 260 km south of capital Raipur.
In a separate incident, a joint contingent of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and state police recovered 10 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from Bangalipara area in Dantewada district, 440 km south from Raipur, during a road opening exercise, officials the at police headquarters here said.
