KABUL - NATO’s largest military base in southern Afghanistan was attacked late Saturday by insurgents, the Washington Post reported citing military officials.
Several coalition troops were reportedly wounded in the attack from the ground and air, as four rockets crashed down on the Kandahar air field. At the same time, insurgents tried to break though a gate to the north of the base, but were thwarted.
“The perimeter was not breached,” Brigadier General Josef Blotz, a spokesman for the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), was quoted as saying.
Saturday night’s attack came three days after insurgents attacked another NATO base, in Bagram, killing one US contractor and wounding several others.
