JAMMU - The Jammu and Kashmir police stopped four teenaged boys from joining the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the state’s Kishtwar district Tuesday - the second such incident in a week in the state where local recruitment to the militants’ ranks has almost dried up.
Police said that the four youth of Kishtwar, 230 km north of Jammu, were on their way to join the LeT when they were intercepted and restored to their parents. They were caught while on their way to meet LeT commander Habib Gujjar, according to a police spokesman.
“The boys, aged between 14 and 16, have been restored to their parents after due questioning,” the spokesman said, adding that the four “would be kept under surveillance”.
Last Tuesday (May 4), the state police had intercepted six boys in the north-western Kashmir district of Baramulla, who were on their way to Pakistan administered Kashmir for arms training.
They were also restored to their parents after questioning. The youth belonged to Sopore area of the district.
