MOHALI - A suspected member of the banned terrorist outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) was arrested from Haryana’s Ambala district, police said Sunday.
Avtar Singh was arrested from the Materi village of Ambala district, about 40 km from here, by a special team from Zirakpur Saturday night and brought here Sunday, according to police.
“Working on a secret tip-off we conducted a raid in Materi village and nabbed Avtar Singh from near the bus stand. From the preliminary investigation, it has been revealed that he is the brother of a France-based BKI member Purshotam Singh,” Zirakpur station house officer Yogi Raj told reporters.
According to police sources, Purshotam was regularly sending money to BKI members in India to sustain their criminal activities.
“Our interrogation is on and we are hoping to make more arrests and to gather vital clues about their terrorist activities in the state,” Yogi Raj said.
Punjab police had arrested five BKI members - two from Zirakpur and three from Rajpura town - in March.
