35 killed in Iraq bombings

BAGHDAD - Seven successive blasts ripped through residential buildings across Baghdad Tuesday, killing 35 people and injuring 140, in a second such attack in the Iraqi capital in three days.
The latest reports said that 35 people were killed and 140 injured in the seven coordinated explosions that targeted residential buildings across Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The first blast occurred at 8:45 a.m.(1115 IST) in Chikok area in northern Baghdad, causing the collapse of two residential buildings, the source said.
About 10 minutes later, another massive blast destroyed a third building in the northwestern Shula area. It followed by another powerful explosion in the southwestern Shurta al-Rabia.
A fifth explosion rocked the Hifa street in central Baghdad, the source said without giving further details about the incident, but said the blast was apparently carried out by a suicide bomber.
The sixth explosion took place at al-Amil area and the seventh blast destroyed a residential building in Baghdad’s southern district of Saidiyah, he added.
The attacks came two days after a series of deadly suicide bombings near foreign embassies in the Iraqi capital.
Sunday, three suicide bombers detonated car bombs within minutes of each other targeting foreign embassies, killing 30 people and wounding 224 others, including security forces.
