BAGHDAD - At least 28 people were killed and about 90 wounded in a series of bomb blasts in the Iraqi capital Tuesday, an interior ministry source said.

Five bombs exploded in Baghdad with the first blast occurring around 8.45 a.m. in the Chikok area, the source told Xinhua requesting anonymity.

Blasts also took place in the Shula and Shurta al-Rabia neighbourhoods and on the Hifa street, the source added. The toll could rise as the rescue work is continuing.

The attacks came two days after a series of suicide bombings against the foreign embassies in Baghdad. The blasts killed at least 30 people and wounded more than 200.
