BAGHDAD - Four people have been killed and seven injured in several attacks in different parts of Iraq, security sources said Thursday.

Iraqi security sources told DPA that two people were killed Thursday when a bomb went off in a crowded market in the city of Mosul, 400 km north of Baghad.

In a separate incident in Mosul, a member of the Kurdish security force, “Asayish”, was injured by an explosive device on a road just outside the city.

Security sources told dpa that Mosul police arrested 26 wanted people, and managed to free a woman who had been kidnapped last week.

Mosul and its surroundings are among the most ethnically and religiously diverse areas of Iraq, and among the most dangerous.

In the area of Dali, northeast of Baghdad, an explosive device killed a man and injured his son while they were in their car.

A Sahwa member was killed overnight Wednesday and five others were injured in a mortar attack at a Sahwa-run checkpoint, also in Dali, security sources said.

Iraqi and US officials credit the Awakening, or “Sahwa”, militias with having helped to restore order in the mostly Sunni areas they have patrolled since 2007.
