‘Lahore fashion week a befitting reply to terrorists’

LAHORE - The Lahore Fashion Week, which brought together 32 designers from across the country and saw top fashion celebrities in attendance, was a befitting response to terrorists who want to enforce the culture of fear in Pakistan, a leading fashion designer has said.
Mahmood Bhatti told the News International that the fashion week, which concluded Friday, was an answer to the “futile efforts of extremists to enforce fear”.
Bhatti said there was no doubt that Pakistan had some of the most creative people in the field of fashion designing and given the right exposure they could become an international sensation.
The quality of work, chic models and professionalism were the astounding features of this avant-garde experience, he added.
He observed that the important task at hand was to now work towards “building a soft and colourful image of the country” in the international arena.
The four-day long Pakistan Fashion Design Council (PFDC) Sunsilk Fashion Week came to an end Friday, with aplomb and fiesta.
“This fashion week has proved the immense creativity and prowess of the Pakistani people,” Daily Times quoted PFDC spokesman Hassan Sheheryar Yasin as saying.
The final day of the fashion event saw members of the well-known music band Strings and singer Ali Zafar walk the ramp.
PFDC chairperson Sehyr Saigol paid tribute to Lahore and its people for making the event successful and thanked the buyers who came from across Pakistan.
“Such events are very important for Pakistan and we should keep organising more and more fashion weeks in Pakistan,” she said.
The designers who took part in the fashion week included Ali Xeeshan, Ammar Belal, Asifa & Nabeel, Asian Institute of Fashion Design, Body Focus Museum, lan by Khadija Shah, Hajra Hayat, Hoorain, HSY, Kamiar Rokni, Karma and Khaadi.
Some of the other big names are: Maria B., Mehdi, Munib Nawaz, Muse, Nayna, Nickie Nina, Nida Azwer, Nomi Ansari, Rehana Saigol, Rouge, Saai by Sahar Atif, Sadaf Malaterre and Sarah Salman.
