KOLKATA - Three villagers were injured when armed Maoist guerrillas attacked a local club in West Midnapore district of West Bengal, police said Saturday.

Eight rebels opened fire at the villagers late Friday when they assembled to see a folk theatre arranged in the premises of a local club. The incident took place at Dhanshola village under Shalboni police station.

“We have got the information about the attack early this (Saturday) morning and immediately sent our force to the spot. We have not registered any case so far as our officers have still not returned from the location,” a police officer told IANS.

He said no one has been arrested so far.

“The Maoists fled the scene after firing. One of the injured villagers was taken to a Kolkata hospital as his condition was serious,” the officer said.
