KOLKATA - Maoist guerrillas attacked two camps of joint security forces in West Bengal’s Bankura district, killing one policeman, injuring eight and abducting another, police said Tuesday.

A large number of ultras separately attacked two camps of the joint security forces at Chandapathar and Satnala in the district, 165 km from here, around 11 p.m. Monday, leading to a heavy exchange of fire between the policemen and the Maoists for over one and a half hours, police sources said.

The Left wing ultras abducted two policemen - Sanjay Ghosh and Ajay Pande. While Ghosh’s body, with injury marks all over, was found in a jungle near the Satnala camp Tuesday, Pandey was still untraced.

The eight injured personnel belonged to the state armed police, Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Kuldip Singh told IANS.

“Three of the policemen are seriously injured,” he said.

Several self-loading rifles and AK-47 rifles were stolen from the camps by the extremists.
