Huge quantity of explosives seized in Orissa

BHUBANESWAR - A day ahead of shutdown called by the Maoists, a huge quantity of explosives was seized in Orissa’s Gajapati district and two paramilitary troopers were injured in a blast in Koraput ditrict Sunday, police said.

“We have seized more than 300 detonators and three gunny bags full of explosives this evening from Parlakhemundi,” Gajapti’s Superintendent of Police Sanjay Arora told IANS.

Arora said two people were arrested and the police were probing whether the huge quantity of explosives was meant for any disruptive activities.

Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers sustained injuries in land mine blast in Koraput district on Sunday, the police said.

“We had sent a party for checking culverts and combing operations when the land mine blew up. Two troopers sustained minor injuries,” Koraput Superintendent of Police Anup Sahu said.
