One killed as Maoists trigger blast

BHUBANESWAR - Maoists blew up a jeep carrying policemen and some civilians in Orissas Koraput district Saturday, killing one person and injuring some others, police said.
The rebels triggered a landmine blast under a jeep carrying 14 people, including 10 policemen, near Pallur village under Narayan Patna police station. The policemen were returning to their camp after conducting search operations in the area.
The Maoists triggered the landmine blast around 7 a.m. One civilian has died. All policemen are safe, although two of them have sustained minor injuries, Deputy Inspector General of police Sanjeev Panda told IANS. The vehicle was damaged in the blast.
The attack came a day after central Home Minister P. Chidambaram held a meeting at Chhattisgarh capital Raipur on a planned anti-Maoist operation.
The district headquarter of Koraput is located about 500 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.
