Arrested Taliban operative demands meat, chicken in jail

PATNA - An Afghan national who has close links with the Taliban and was arrested in Purnia district of Bihar for trying to illegally sneak into Bangladesh, threatened to launch a hunger-strike if he was not given two kilos of meat and one kilo of chicken daily.
“Ghulam Rasool Khan alias Khan Mirza, who is currently lodged in Purnia jail, demanded two kilos of meat and one kilo of chicken daily and threatened to launch a hunger-strike if he was not provided with it,” a police official told IANS from Purnia over telephone Friday.
In the past two days Khan refused to eat the vegetarian food that he was provided. He told jail officials that he was a habitual meat eater.
The Afghan national reportedly said that he used to consume two kilos of meat and one kilo of chicken daily for the past five years.
The top brass of the state administration has been informed about this development.
According to the police, Khan had confessed to links with the Taliban in Afghanistan.
“He told police about his connection with the Taliban,” Additional Director General of police U.S. Dutt said.
On the basis of intelligence inputs, Khan was arrested in Purnia district Jan 13 while planning to cross the India-Bangladesh border. A Pakistani passport and other important documents were recovered from him.
