MOGADISHU - A suicide bomber detonated a vehicle at a police training camp in the Somali capital Mogadishu, killing at least ten people, government and police officials said Monday.

A suicide bomber in a vehicle entered a police station in the Hamar Jajab district, wounding a number of police officers, government official Ali Ibrahim said. “The explosion was huge, but reports indicate that it hasn’t caused as much damage as intended.”

A police source said ten people - four police and six civilians - had been killed, although the toll could rise.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, although Islamist insurgent group al-Shabaab, which is fighting to topple the weak Western-backed government, has carried out such bombings in the past.
