Eleven Maoists arrested in Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR - Police arrested 11 Maoist guerillas in Chhattisgarh Saturday and seized explosives and guns from them, an official said.

The arrests were made from Durgkondal area in the state’s restive Kanker district, some 150 km south from capital Raipur, officials here at the police headquarters here told IANS.

The rebels were apprehended from a thickly forested hamlet while they were holding a meeting and guns and explosives were seized from the site.

Kanker, Bijapur, Dantewada, Bastar and Narayanpur districts form the 40,000 sq km mineral rich Bastar region that is considered the nerve centre of Maoist militancy in India since the late 1980s.
