SRINAGAR - Separatist guerrillas shot dead a contractor in north Kashmir’s Kreeri town while a powerful hand grenade blast wounded four people, including two policemen, in summer capital Srinagar Monday.
A senior police officer told IANS that guerrillas hurled a powerful hand grenade in front of the fire services headquarters in the uptown Batmallo locality here Monday evening which exploded on the road.
A traffic police officer, a policeman, an assistant engineer of the state roads and buildings department and a civilian bystander were injured in the explosion, the police officer said.
He said all the injured were taken to a local hospital and the engineer was critical.
Security forces rushed to the spot immediately after the blast triggered panic and tension in the otherwise busy Batmallo locality.

Guerrillas fired several rounds at Nazir Ahmed Lone from close range, police said. Lone was shifted to Soura Medical Institute with critical head and abdominal injuries where he succumbed Monday evening.
