KOLKATA - The body of a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) supporter killed by suspected Maoists was found near Sapdhara village in West Bengal’s Jhargram police district Wednesday, an official said.

A group of Maoist guerrillas had taken away Baria Soren at gunpoint from the village in West Midnapore district Tuesday.

“We have received the body of Baria Soren, who was a resident of Sapdhara,” Jhargram’s Superintendent of Police Praveen Tripathi told IANS over phone.

“He was a CPI-M supporter. We believe it is the handiwork of the Maoists,” Tripathi said.

Jhargram police district was carved out of the West Midnapore district to contain the escalating left wing extremist violence in the area.

Maoists are mainly active in three western districts of the state - West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura.
