RANCHI - Four Maoist rebels, including a woman, were arrested from Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district Thursday, police said.

The Maoists were arrested in a joint operation of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched to trace the three hardcore Maoists who had escaped from the Chaibasa Jail earlier this week.

During the search operation, security forces were tipped about the presence of Maoists in the Podiyahat jungles of the district. Four Maoists identified as zonal commander Marshal Buiyan, Nenson Buiyan, Premanand Kumar and Pinky Kumari were arrested.

Marshal Buiyan, allegedly involved in nearly a dozen Maoist attacks, was on the state police’s most wanted list and his arrest is a major breakthrough, a police official said.
