Three women among five Maoists killed in Orissa gunfight

BHUBANESWAR - At least five Maoists, including three women, were killed in a fierce gunfight with the police in Orissa’s Jajpur district early Sunday, officials said.

Police personal and two teams of the anti-Maoist Special Operations Group raided a Maoist camp in the forested area of Jajpur district, some 100 km from here, late Saturday. The gunfight began at about 11 p.m. Saturday and continued till the early hours Sunday.

No policeman was injured.

“Huge catch of arms and weapons have been recovered, including two country made guns and eight rifles,” Inspector General of Police Sanjeev Marik told IANS.

Maoists are active in more then half of Orissas 30 districts.
