RAIPUR - A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper was killed Sunday in an attack by Maoists in the jungle areas of Chhattisgarhs restive Bastar region, police said.

The killing was reported from Konta area in Dantewada, some 480 km south of capital Raipur.

“When a CRPF contingent was on a search drive, a bullet fired from a jungle base hit a jawan (trooper) in the neck,” Director General of Police Vishwaranjan told IANS.

He said the CRPF men retaliated but no one fired back. Even after a massive search, no Maoist was found which suggested that it was work of a single Maoist.

Dantewada is a Maoists-stronghold since late 1980s.
