KOLKATA - Suspected Maoists gunned down two supporters of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district, police said Monday.
We were informed that two bodies of CPI-M supporters were found in Dhangori village of Jhargram sub-division Monday morning. A police team has been rushed to the spot, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) Mukesh Kumar.
Both the CPI-M supporters were dragged out from their houses Sunday night and later shot dead. Their bodies were noticed within 20 feet of the gram panchayat office building, which was torched by the Maoists on Friday, Kumar said.
“We are yet to identify the bodies,” he added.
Maoists are active in three western districts of the state - West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura.
