One killed in Kashmir gun battle

JAMMU - One person was killed during a night-long gun battle between militants and security forces in the forests of Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir, police said Saturday.

The gunfight started at Nandigard area of Kishtwar when security forces encircled a group of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists Friday night and lasted well past midnight.

All three terrorists are suspected to have escaped in the cover of darkness, officials said. But a body was found Saturday morning. While police claim he was an overground worker of a militant outfit, locals alleged he was a civilian.
