RANCHI - A Maoist guerrilla who was arrested in Jharkhand’s coal city Dhanbad was Wednesday morning mysteriously found dead in jail, police sources said.

Direndra Singh was arrested from a petrol pump in Dhanbad district Tuesday. Police had seized Maoist literature and posters from him.

The rebel was taken to Barbadda police station of Dhanbad, around 240 km from here. He was interrogated Tuesday night, the sources said.

Singh was found dead Wednesday morning.

Police officials are tight-lipped about the cause of death. “We will comment after getting the post-mortem report,” an official said.
