SRINAGAR - Two paramilitary troopers were gunned down and their weapons seized by separatist guerrillas who struck in a crowded market in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pattan town and then fled, police said.
The guerrillas attacked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) team deployed in the market in the town, about 30 km from here.
While one trooper was killed instantly, the other suffered critical head injuries and was moved to hospital where he died, police said.
The shooting took place in the busy market milling around with people. The gunmen escaped after firing at the troopers from close range, an official said.
People ran for cover as gunshots were heard. The markets immediately closed after the incident.
