KABUL - At least 30 insurgents were killed trying to storm a NATO outpost Saturday in south-eastern Afghanistan, the alliance said.

Rebels attacked a forward base in Bermal district of south-eastern Paktika province Saturday morning. Five NATO soldiers were wounded in the clash, a military statement said.

“The coalition forces repelled an insurgent attack on a combat outpost, killing more than 30 insurgents,” it said.

NATO said its troops called for close-air support when insurgents attacked from all directions with rocket-propelled grenades, small arms and mortar fire.
