NEW DELHI - Those injured in the 2005 Sarojini Nagar market pre-Diwali blast, their family members and the kin of those killed Friday offered multi-faith prayers at the site in south Delhi where 61 people lost their lives.

On the fifth anniversary of the blasts, around 60 people gathered near the site and a commemorative function was held.

“The family members prayed for the departed souls,” Sarojini Nagar Mini-market Traders’ Association president Ashok Randhawa said. This was followed by a puja following Hindu traditions.

Three powerful bombs had rocked the capital days ahead of Diwali in 2005, casting a shadow on the festival and sparking international condemnation.

Another blast took place in central Delhi’s Paharganj, followed by an explosion near a bus at Govindpuri in south Delhi.
