Family members appeal to Maoists to free abducted duo

KOLKATA - The families of the abducted Intelligence Bureau officer and an NGO ctivist Thursday appealed to the Maoists for immediate and safe release of their kins.
IB officer Partho Biswas of North 24-Parganas and NGO activist Soumyajit Bose of Hooghly were believed to have been abducted by the Maoists from Ayodhya Hills in Purulia district Oct 23. Police have been unable to trace them despite combing operations in the area.
“We appeal to the Maoists to release my husband. He is innocent. He is a teacher and had no links with any organisations. He went to Ayodhya Hill only because of his love for nature and innocent tribal people there,” said Swachhatoya, wife of Bose.
“We are appealing to them through news channels and newspapers to release them safely,” she said at the state secretariat Writers Buildings after meeting Director General of Police Naparajit Mukherjee and Additional Director General (Law and Order) Surojit Kar Purokayastha.
Swachhatoya, along with Boses father and elder brother, went to Writers Buildings to meet senior police officers and urge them to rescue Bose and Biswas safely.
We have requested them to rescue Soumyajit safely and quickly. They have assured us that they are trying their best in this regard. They also informed us that several measures have been taken, though they did not disclose those to us,” she said.
Meanwhile, Biswass wife Barnali Biswas and his brother went to Purulia and meet the district police superintendent, whom they requested to take all necessary steps to rescue Biswas, said a police officer.
“The Maoists have not communicated with us or the family members. We are trying our best to rescue the abducted IB officer and NGO worker,” Inspector General of police (Western Range) Zulfikar Hassan said.
