Testimony resumes in Conn. home invasion trial

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A state police detective has testified that one of the men charged in the 2007 home invasion killings of a Connecticut woman and her two daughters told him that the original plan was simply to rob a home, but things got out of hand.

Detective Anthony Buglione testified Wednesday in New Haven Superior Court that he interviewed Steven Hayes the day of the crime. Buglione said Hayes, who smelled of gasoline, told him in detail what happened at the Cheshire home.

Hayes’ trial resumed Wednesday after being delayed early this week because the judge was hospitalized.

Hayes and Joshua Komisarjevsky (koh-mih-sar-JEV’-skee), who awaits trial, face a possible death penalty if convicted of murder and sexual assault charges. Jennifer Hawke-Petit of Cheshire and her daughters, ages 11 and 17, were killed.
