Taiwan raises travel alert for India following shooting

TAIPEI - Taiwan raised the travel alert for India late Tuesday, following Sunday’s shooting in New Delhi which left two Taiwanese injured.
The alert was raised from yellow to orange, the second most serious level on a four-scale system. The alert applies to the Indian capital New Delhi and its commercial centre Mumbai, as well as some border regions and regions rife with separatist activities: Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Orissa, West Bengal, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura.
“We urge Taiwan nationals to suspend going to these regions. Those who are already in these regions must pay attention to personal security,” the ministry said.
Taiwan officials urged Taiwanese to contact Taiwan’s representative office in India in case of emergency.
Two cameramen of a Taiwan TV crew were injured Sunday when two masked gunmen opened fire on their coach near a mosque in Delhi.
One of the injured cameramen and two members of the TV crew will return to Taiwan Wednesday. The other injured cameraman and two other TV crew members are expected to return home a week later.
