KABUL - Five road construction workers were killed Tuesday when their vehicle was blown up by a roadside bomb in central Afghanistan, the interior ministry said.

Three other workers were injured in the blast in Shinwari district of Parwan province, 80 km north of capital Kabul, it said.

No group immediately took responsibility for the blast.

Taliban militants often plant bombs on highways and dirt roads to target military vehicles, but civilians often become victims when they use the same routes.
