Ex-girlfriend: Teen wanted to be like TV killer

RISING SUN, Ind. — The former girlfriend of an Indiana teenager who pleaded guilty to murder says he told her he wanted to be just like the TV serial killer Dexter before he strangled his 10-year-old brother.

Alexis Murafski testified Tuesday during the fifth day of 18-year-old Andrew Conley’s sentencing hearing in the small Ohio River town of Rising Sun.

Prosecutors also played jail surveillance video in which Conley discussed a new episode of the Showtime series “Dexter” with a visitor a few weeks after Conner Conley’s November death.

Earlier Tuesday, Andrew Conley read a prepared statement in which he said he was sorry for killing his brother and didn’t understand why he did so.

The hearing is expected to end Tuesday, with the judge ruling on a sentence within a few weeks.
